John grew up in Detroit and started playing bass when he was 5 years old with his mom, a classical pianist. He initially studied bass with Robert Gladstone, the principle bassist from the Detroit Symphony. He moved to Boston and continued his bass studies at the New England Conservatory of Music. Over the years he has been blessed to work with some of the industry’s best artists, including ex-Motown players, and the MC5. He currently resides in Massachusetts, where he enjoys his role as East Groove’s groove master, an acoustic jazz player on the New England scene, and a bass teacher to many fortunate students. |
